2023 McQueen Estate Syrah

One of my favorite wines to make not only from the final product that I enjoy but because of the pure challenge this block of Syrah is to farm. Planted direct into fracture basalt at 1,440’ in elevation on a south facing, extremely windy hillside. This wine is always right at or under 14% alcohol as ripening is delayed by the wind. Black pepper, smoked meats, a feeling of Côte-Rôtie, and hints of lavender and pretty wildflowers. The palate is wild like the site itself with tannins that are silky yet give way to building power. Beautiful energy in the wine and almost a hint of being close to the Mediterranean. Drink now through 2048.
